Health Sciences Facility II

UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND AT BALTIMORE
Baltimore, Maryland

184,000 SF biomedical research facility, adjacent to HSF I, houses state-of-the-art research and related support space for the study of genomics, molecular biology, proteomics, bioterrorism, and bioinformatics. The School of Medicine occupies six floors, which provides 45 new labs, including a BSL-3 containment facility. Built with a $2 million NIH construction grant, the BSL-3 facility consists of seven self-contained labs, each with its own independent ventilation system. The School of Pharmacy occupies the top two floors, doubling the amount of lab space currently for the study of the underlying biology of disease, mechanisms of drug action, and drug design. The basement of HSF II is home to the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Center. In addition, the new building includes offices for faculty and staff, three seminar rooms, and a 100-seat auditorium
