BR+A is seeking applicants for a Mechanical Engineer position in our Boston headquarters. The candidate would be strongly motivated, well organized, and show professional initiative. The applicant should be able to take ownership of assignments and perform well both independently and as part of the project team. The ideal candidate would have a strong working knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, and would have the following responsibilities:

  • Perform advanced heating and cooling load calculations with Trace or HAP;
  • Develop sections and elevations of complex ductwork and piping areas;
  • Develop equipment room sizes during SD and DD phases;
  • Edit specifications to reflect the project requirements;
  • Develop air and water flows;
  • Understand fan and pump curves to properly select equipment for application;
  • Use the psychrometric chart properly for any HVAC system;
  • Meet with vendors to determine specification requirements for application.  
  • Coordinate with other disciplines (mepfp, arch, struct, etc) for all HVAC details;
  • Respond to RFI’s for the project, and accurately review submittals;

  • Understand the proper scope of SD, DD, CD level documents and deliver appropriate documentation;
  • Modify sequences of operations for AHU’s, CHW and HW systems;

BR+A Consulting Engineers is seeking a VDC Engineer for our Boston office. The candidate  will be a member of our quality control project team assisting with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Virtual Design and Construction (VDC). The candidate would be strongly motivated, well organized, and show professional initiative. The applicant should be able to take ownership of assignments and perform well both independently and as part of the project team. The ideal candidate would have the following responsibilities:

  • Work with project team to coordinate all building services (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Technology, etc.) to find best routing and avoid interferences with other building systems
  • Manage and implement a VDC project setup process, facilitating BIM meetings and design quality control coordination sessions
  • Lead clash prevention analyses, generating and tracking clash reports, assisting with the communication of results with our design, quality control, and construction administration teams
  • Train our design team on BIM capabilities, including best practices and lessons learned
  • Work with our Principals to understand current processes, advise, and assist in implementing the VDC processes
  • Participate in speaking opportunities within the industry and focus groups

Position Requirements:

  • 5+ years experience overseeing VDC and BIM implementation
  • Proficient with BIM software (Revit, NavisWorks etc);

  • Excellent knowledge of VDC processes used in the industry

BR+A is seeking applicants for a lead Electrical Engineer in our Charleston, SC office. The candidate would be strongly motivated, well organized, and show professional initiative. The applicant should be able to take ownership of assignments and perform well both independently and as part of the project team. The ideal candidate would have the following skills:

 

Essential Functions:

  • This position will provide an opportunity to lead the Electrical Engineering group at the Charleston, SC office location. 
  • This is a Client focused position; therefore, ability to effectively communicate with Owners, Contractors, and Subcontractors is mandatory
  • High growth potential, with opportunity to have meaningful input into our corporate strategies for the Charleston market.
  • Provide Engineering design and leadership for all electrical systems, including lighting, power and low voltage systems;
  • Experience in the following market sectors is expected: Healthcare, Labs, Science and Technology, and Electrical Infrastructure
  • Implement approved system concepts from a schematic diagram to floor plans;
  • Sketch rough layouts to review with other assigned Project Engineers or Project Manager;
  • Review and properly apply product cut sheets and technical information;
  • Communicate with Project Manager/Project Engineer regarding potential problems;
  • Attend meetings as required;
  • Work to submit the required documentation per project deadlines and milestones;
  • Attend in-house coordination meetings when appropriate;
  • Develop a strategy to meet the projects’ schedule;
  • Assist in the development of electrical engineering system concept design;
  • Assist the design team on major design issues; Communicate clearly with other designers in the office as well as virtually.
  • Responsible for organizing required technical correspondence, emails, and calculations;
  • Perform field work and verification of existing conditions; Field work requires the use of ladders for above ceiling investigation; Must be able to walk extensively for larger project site surveys.
  • Revit Proficiency is a requirement.

Essential Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Possesses excellent communication skills both verbal and written;
  • Good understanding of Engineering concepts, design, and spatial requirements;
  • Professional attitude and appearance;
  • Positive attitude, result driven and team-oriented;
  • Be able to think three-dimensionally;
  • Capable of visiting job sites to perform field work;
  • Able to manage time to meet deadlines.
  • Understanding of codes and standards such as NFPA 70, 99, and 101, FGI and IES.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET institution
  • Minimum 5 years experience;
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in South Carolina;
